SANE: Backends (Drivers)

The following table summarizes the backends/drivers distributed with sane-backends-1.0.12, and the hardware or software they support.

This is only a summary! Please consult the manpages and the author-supplied webpages for more detailed (and usually important) information concerning each backend.

There are special tables for parallel port and USB scanners from Jonathan Buzzard.

If you have new information or corrections, please send e-mail to sane-devel, the SANE mailing list.

For an explanation of the tables, see the legend.

There are tables for scanners, still cameras, video cameras, APIs, and meta backends.

Backends: gphoto2, pint, pnm, test, v4l

Backend: gphoto2 (v0.0)

Link(s): mailto:peter@fales-lorenz.net
Manual page: sane-gphoto2
Status: beta
Description: Multiple cameras supported by the gphoto2 libraries
Comment: The long-term plan is to support all the cameras supported by the gphoto2 libraries (currently over 140 models). However, at this stage, only a han dful of cameras are definitely known to work with SANE. Other cameras will probably work if the native file format is EXIF or JPEG. Testers welcome!

A vague indication of robustness and reliability.
  • unsupported means the device is not supported at least by this backend. It may be supported by other backends, however.
  • untested means the device may be supported but couldn't be tested. Be very careful.
  • alpha means it must do something, but is not very well tested, probably has bugs, and may even crash your system, etc., etc.
  • beta means it works pretty well, and looks stable and functional, but not bullet-proof.
  • stable means someone is pulling your leg.
Description:
